Dream of Narendra ModiThe story goes that Narendra Modi's heart was set on building a monument to India's iron man Sardar Patel after his very first day out in America in the early 1990s. He was visiting the US as a BJP apparatchik, and he set forth from his friend Suresh Jani's home in New Jersey to visit the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor. Why can't we building something like this in India, Jani recalls Modi asking, as he soaked up the then century-old landmark, a gift to the United States from the people of France.
